BJCP Study - Learn how to evaluate good beers

Welcome to the BJCP study area. There are links that will get you to the study materials needed to study and take the BJCP exam to become a certified and higher judge. You will study the different styles of beer and what to look for in that particular style. You will also be able to determine any of the "off tastes" and learn what they are called and what causes these to be in the aroma and flavor of the beer. That means after this study,  you will definitely be brewing better beer.

You need to go to the BJCP web site and get the study guide (Link to the right). You should print this material out and get a large notebook to keep this in because it will be used a lot during your study sessions. You also need to get the 2004 Style Guidelines.

The Carolina Brewmasters will be putting together sessions where we will meet and study the many different styles. We also plan to have an Exam sometime in early 2006 for everyone to become a certified BJCP Judge. It would be recommended for you to go to some of the competitions this year and steward or even judge at these events. This is a very good learning experience to see the many different styles of beer.

The Mastering the BJCP Exam link to the right is a great Adobe acrobat file by Grand Master Judge, Gordon Strong. This tells a lot about what the BJCP Exam is all about and gives you a good way to prepare for the upcoming Exam.  Check it out !

To join the Beer Study Group from Raleigh - Click on the link to the right and just put subscribe in the subject line. The put your name and you are with the Carolina Brewmasters in the email. Then send away and you will then receive messages( like on Brewnet ) about the study info and sessions.
